JARIQ SHAWL
Jariq Shawl knitted with Rowan Lane Fibrers Sanctum Fingering
INSPIRATION
When I set out to design the Jariq (Kazakh word for ‘light’) shawl, I wanted to turn this textured fabric, reminiscent of sunlight dappling through trees, into a comforting wrap. I also wanted the knitting process to be soothing: no swatching (unless you want to), no charts to follow, no complex shaping to keep track of, just an easily memorized stitch repeat that you can knit to your desired size. The pattern is easy to customize to the amount of yarn you have, works well with most yarns, and results in a small scarf or a large wrap that can be as dressy or ‘neutral’ as you prefer, depending on your yarn choice.

CONSTRUCTION
This triangular shawl is worked sideways, starting from the right tip and ending with the left tip. While it is not essential to do a gauge swatch before casting on, I recommend steam-blocking the first 6”/15 cm of your knitting to ensure you like the fabric’s feel. It should be fairly loose and flowy.
